SKETCH-OF-THE-DAY 069

J is for Jormungandr

Fathered by Loki, the gargantuan sea serpent Jormungandr has a pretty important role in Norse mythology - or at least will eventually - as Jormy's role hasn't happened yet.  You see at Ragnarok, the epic serpent  is destined to bust onto the scene and cause all sorts of problems like spreading clouds of poison, steal library books, etc.  It will culminate in one last head-to-head fight with Thor - they will trade body blows until Jormungandr will finally be slain.  Unfortunately, Thor will then drown in the sea serpent's venom.  Booyah!

  1. I didn't really want to do another Norse monster with scales (having just done Fafnir for F) - but the pickin' for the letter "J" are pretty thin. Now "K" on the other hand.....

  3. Coulda gone Roman and done Jupiter or Juno... but human-looking gods are less exciting than a giant serpent. PLEASE tell me you're doing Kali for "K". I'd love to see a good, Steve Prescott Kali.

  4. Actually, my choice is between Kali and some Pacific island pig god that so sounds like something Mignola would draw. Pig head and body - human hands and feet - such fun!
